No Reptile and no SuperBoy

Midway has decided that the torture had been going on for long enough and revealed the full list of characters that would appear in the upcoming Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe. The list is interesting and a bit surprising at the same time.

The Mortal Kombat roster is filled with familiar faces from the previous games. Scorpion is going to be flinging “get over here” roped spears all around the screen with Sub Zero ready to freeze anyone who's annoying him. The Police team of Sonya and Jax is also back, with Raiden representing the Old Gods and Shao Kahn leading the charge. You can also choose to play as Shang Tsung, Liu Kang, the beautiful Kitana, Kano and Baraka.

The DC Universe counters by throwing leading men Superman and Batman into the fight, backed up by an all star cast that includes Captain Marvel, under the name of Shazam, Catwoman, the Green Lantern, The Joker, The Flash, Wonder Woman and baddies Darkseid, Deathstroke and Lex Luthor.

The weird name in the above list is that of Lex Luthos, who, last time I checked, was lacking the superhero or magical powers required to take on the other protagonists. Well, maybe they will include him in that suit of armor which he wore briefly to threaten Superman.

Some people were surely expecting to see more than the 22 characters confirmed by Midway, but I'm OK with having a limited roster as long as each character has fully fleshed out fighting moves, with cool combos and special powers.

The bad news is that there's no Supergirl or SuperBoy Prime on the DC list, which means that one of the most interesting and arguably most powerful characters in the universe will not get to try and beat back the Mortal Kombat invasion. The game is set to be released this year for the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3.
