One of the few rumors that gets official confirmation

On Friday, we have reported rumors regarding a possible release of a Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe game, where the likes of Sub Zero, Scorpion and the others were supposed to fight against Batman, Superman and other DC Comics superheroes. We have analyzed the rumor, found Ed Boon's website that was filled with stuff that could've been considered a confirmation of the rumor and decided it was a rumor strong enough to believe and very likely to happen.

It seems that we were right, since Midway have officially confirmed the game now, released a short teaser trailer where we can see Batman in action and even detailed two new fighting mechanics - Freefall Kombat and Klose Kombat.

The first new type, Freefall Kombat allows characters to fight while falling - an unrestricted free fall that definitely allows you to destroy your opponent and win the round - however there are no words related to the length of the falls. But it seems that if none of the fighters manages to win the round before hitting the ground, it will be a lose-lose situation.

The second type, Klose Kombat zooms in on the action with close-quarters fighting. More than basic punches and kicks, Klose Kombat allows you to tear your opponent's clothing and execute sophisticated grabs. This mode is probably made especially for the artistic impression and we always love this kind of stuff!

"It is a truly unique and extremely exciting effort to be teaming up with Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and DC Comics for the first Mortal Kombat game on next generation platforms," said Ed Boon, co-creator and executive producer for Mortal Kombat at Midway Amusement Games. "The DC Universe characters are some of the most popular and enduring characters in the world. By combining them with the Mortal Kombat mythology, all new gameplay modes and features, plus a completely unique storyline crafted by top comic writers, players will now be able to answer the question: what would happen if Batman fought Sub Zero?"

We'd say that Batman would freeze to death. But we really wonder what would happen if Superman fought anybody. How can one defeat Superman? Guess we'll see, earlier than expected, since Midway has also announced that the game will be available for PS3 and Xbox 360 consoles this fall.
