Music games are some of the most profitable types of video games currently present on the market, largely because they present the companies that make them with quite a few money-making possibilities.

From the normal retail sales of the game discs to the sales of instruments and, most importantly, DLC songs, companies such as Activision or Harmonix are making some serious money off of franchises like Guitar Hero and Rock Band respectively.

Another good way to make a profit is to release new versions of the games, which have certain distinguishing elements, a practice that has been perfected by Activision, which released a wide variety of Guitar Hero versions.

The latest one set to appear is Guitar Hero: Smash Hits, which aims at bringing popular tracks from older versions into one new and improved title. We've already heard what songs will be taken from Guitar Hero and Guitar Hero II, and now the company reveals what tracks will get the full band makeover from Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock and Guitar Hero: Rock the 80s.

Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock Pat Benatar - “Hit Me With Your Best Shot” Living Colour - “Cult Of Personality” Heart - “Barracuda” Kiss - “Rock And Roll All Nite” AFI - “Miss Murder” DragonForce - “Through The Fire And Flames” Priestess - “Lay Down” Slayer - “Raining Blood”

Guitar Hero: Rock the 80s Anthrax - "Caught In A Mosh" Extreme - "Play With Me" Judas Priest - "Electric Eye" Poison - "Nothin' But A Good Time" Ratt - "Round and Round" Twisted Sister - "I Wanna Rock"

Even though some of them were already rumored or confirmed by various Activision employees, such as Dragonforce's Through the Fire and Flames, it's nice to see just what songs will arrive from the third big version of the famous franchise and from one of biggest selling tribute version of the game.
