Music games are extremely popular these days because they generate a huge amount of profit for the companies involved in them and, for the end-user, provide a great experience that they can share with friends and family.

Activision is currently the biggest company on this market because it owns the rights to the very successful Guitar Hero series. After releasing the fourth big entry in the lineup, Guitar Hero: World Tour, it also revealed that a variety of other titles bearing the GH brand would appear, with the latest one being GH: Metallica.

But in June, the company also plans to release a new version, entitled Guitar Hero: Smash Hits, which will bring some of the most popular songs in all other previous releases back and enriched with full band play, instead of sticking to just the guitar possibility.

Now, the company has just announced the tracks that will be extracted from Guitar Hero II and which will appear on this new version, currently developed by Beenox Studios for Activision. With artists like Nirvana, Iron Maiden or Motley Crue, players will certainly be pleased with the selection.

Avenged Sevenfold - “Beast And The Harlot” Rage Against The Machine - “Killing In The Name” Rush - “YYZ” Lynyrd Skynyrd - “Free Bird” Foo Fighters - “Monkey Wrench” Iron Maiden - “The Trooper” Nirvana - “Heart-Shaped Box” Lamb of God - “Laid To Rest” The Police - “Message In A Bottle” Wolfmother - “Woman” Kansas - “Carry On Wayward Son” Stone Temple Pilots - “Trippin' On A Hole In A Paper Heart” Warrant - “Cherry Pie” Alice in Chains - “Them Bones” Danzig - “Mother” Jane’s Addiction - “Stop!” Reverend Horton Heat - “Psychobilly Freakout” The Sword - “Freya” Mötley Crüe- “Shout At The Devil”

A truly great lineup and, with Guitar Hero Encore: Rocks the 80s and Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock remaining to be selected by the developers, fans are sure to mark this release as a must-buy title for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Nintendo Wii or PlayStation 2.
