Taiwanese mobile phone maker HTC is getting closer and closer to the launch of a new Android-based smartphone, one that would include a high-quality camera, and some more info on the device emerged recently.

Initially, the smartphone was expected to land on shelves with Microsoft's Windows Phone platform on board, but more and more evidence of it being an Android device emerged.

For those out of the loop, we should note that the device was rumored to arrive on shelves with a 16-megapixel photo snapper on the back, which should enable it take great photos and record impressive videos.

Apparently, the new device, unannounced and unofficial as of now, might sport the codename of Doubleshot, though it could land on shelves under a totally different name.

Rumor has it that the smartphone would be powered by Google's Android 2.3 Gingerbread platform, with the HTC Sense 3.0 UI on top of it.

On top of that, the handset is said to come with a large touchscreen display that can boast a 800 x 480 WVGA resolution, complemented by a full QWERTY keyboard (in a sliding form factor).

Moreover, the device should sport a 1.2GHz application processor inside, most probably a dual-core, though not confirmed for the time being, and with Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n and Bluetooth 3.0 connectivity options inside.

According to the news, the phone would actually pack a 6-megapixel photo snapper, with HDR capabilities. Most probably, the mobile phone would be a 3D-capable device from HTC, sporting dual-cameras, the same as EVO 3D does.

Word on the street is that the Doubleshot might be on its way to T-Mobile in the United States, and that it could land sometime in July. Given the close relationship between the handset vendor and the wireless carrier, this could indeed pan out.

All in all, it seems that HTC Sensation might be accompanied by another flagship model from the company soon, though it remains to be seen when exactly would the handset land on shelves, and how much of the rumored specs would pan out.
