Hoping for a track editor

Gran Turismo 5 finally has a launch date, with publisher Sony and developer Polyphony Digital saying that the racing simulation will be delivered to North American gamers on November 2 and with the dates for Japan and Europe coming later in the year.

The title is exclusive for the PlayStation 3 and Sony has high hopes it will attract racing enthusiasts to the platform, despite the long delays that have plagued the project. And it seems some section of the game's charm is still being kept under wraps until we get close to the actual launch date.

Chris Hinojosa-Miranda, who is an associate producer working on Gran Turismo 5, offered a very clear answer to VG247 when asked about whether the game has any more tricks to show off. He said, “No, no, no, no, no, no. Definitely not. E3 is a big event for us, and this is where we start releasing information.”

But he refused to confirm anything about the track editor that long time fans had been clamoring for “It’s one of those things. Those are just rumours. We can’t really confirm or deny. There are so many things out there that people are putting out as like a wish-list of features they want to see in the game.”

Gran Turismo 5 has been confirmed to feature around 1,000 cars that can be used by the player. Around a fifth of those will be in the “premium” category, which means the interiors will be fully detailed and the damage system will be built using a lot of details.

Around 800 cars will remain in the standard category, meaning the interiors will be very basic and the damage model will not be unique for each vehicle. All these can be raced on more than 20 tracks that have close to 70 variations.
