We've known for some time that Epic Games and People Can Fly, the people behind shooter Painkiller, are working on a new project called Bulletstorm, but the two companies only now officially talked about the new first person shooter, which is confirmed to arrive on the Xbox 360 from Microsoft, the PlayStation 3 from Sony and the PC at some point during 2011.

Bulletstorm is set to tell the story of two mercenary warriors, Grayson Hunt and Ishi Sato, who are betrayed by their commander and left to die somewhere on the edges of the galaxy. The main threats they face are mutants and gangs who seem to have a taste for human flesh and they must fend off both using a large arsenal of larger-than-life weapons and complex combat moves.

Epic Games and People Can Fly seems to aim for a return to the roots of the shooter genre, with most of the resources spent on Bulletstorm devoted to creating complex enemies that can always pose a threat to the player and impressive and devastating weapons that can be used to take them out.

Michael Capps, who is the president of Epic Games, stated, “Bulletstorm is the kind of game we love to make because it's pure, unadulterated entertainment. People Can Fly has created a wildly fun first-person shooter that looks gorgeous running on the latest Unreal Engine 3 technology, and the skillshot system is a welcome addition to the genre. We can’t wait to see how everyone reacts to seeing Bulletstorm.”

David DeMartini, the senior vice president and general manager of EA Partners, also expressed his satisfaction at getting to publish Bulletstorm, saying, “The first time we laid eyes on Bulletstorm, we instantly knew this is going to be the next big hit from these two great studios delivering yet again an entirely new experience for shooter fans.”
