Froyo at launch almost confirmed

Motorola and Verizon are mum on the launch of the next DROID device, the DROID 2 by Motorola, even if almost every needed detail on the device has already leaked into the wild. The new mobile phone is expected to be put on sale over at Verizon Wireless come August 12, and we're seen leaked photos, training guides, hardware specs and features list for the device emerging on the market, with the only info that still has to be delivered being the price tag and, of course, the exact availability day.

Following the emergence of a leaked training guide from Verizon, which unveiled nearly everything one might have wanted to know on the handset, a DROID 2 flyer has surfaced over at Engadget, confirming what was known before. For instance, the presence of Android 2.2 Foyo on the new device right from the start seems to have been already carved in stone, and the same should apply to the DROID X-like UI skin the second DROID slider at Verizon would boast.

When launched on Verizon's airwaves roughly one week from now, the DORID 2 by Motorola is expected to pack 8GB of on-board memory, complemented by a microSD memory card slot that would support cards of up to 32GB (an 8GB card would be included in the box). Moreover, the handset should come with increased performance levels when compared to the predecessor, including a 40 percent gain in website loading time.

The 1GHz application processor that powers DROID 2 would be responsible for this, it seems, but Froyo is also said to have its share of performance boost. In the end, Google did announce that the new OS flavor offers faster performance than the previous version (the original DROID by Motorola runs Android 2.1 and is being currently updated to Froyo). A look at the flyer should provide you with more info on what DROID 2 should include.
