Specialist video game retailer Game, based in the United Kingdom, has announced that at the moment pre-orders for the upcoming Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 first-person shooter are better than those registered for the previous title in the series, Black Ops.

Game also believes that, if the current trend holds until the official launch date, Modern Warfare 3 might just become the most pre-ordered video game ever in the United Kingdom.

Tom Devine, who is an executive working for the Game Group, has stated, “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 pre-orders are already tracking significantly ahead of Call of Duty: Black Ops at the same time last year.”

He added, “We know that the Call of Duty brand and franchise has the most amazing fan-base and we’ve got some great surprises lined up for those who pre-order with us. We’re looking forward to an incredible launch on November 8.”

The reports coming from Game are in line with what GameStop, which is based in the United States, has announced last month, when it also confirmed more pre-orders for Modern Warfare 3 than for Black Ops.

The numbers might reflect the growing popularity of the franchise that Activision is publishing, but also a bigger effect coming from the marketing efforts of the company.

Gamers might also be expressing more interest because Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is being developed by Infinity Ward, a studio that has a track record of delivering better games than those created by Treyarch.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is set to be launched on November 8 and players will be able to get it on the PlayStation 3 from Sony, the Xbox 360 from Microsoft and the PC.

Alongside it, Activision is also launching Elite, a new multiplayer-oriented service that will deliver game statistics, suggestions and access to more multiplayer maps, with some features requiring a subscription.
