Military theme

Infinity Ward has confirmed, via the official Twitter feed of the company, that when Modern Warfare 2 is released to the public on November 10, the Xbox 360 version of the game, the one expected to have the biggest sales, will be bringing items that can be employed on the Avatars of the users and even Rewards offered when certain in-game objectives are completed.

The news was delivered by Robert Bowling, the community manager of Infinity Ward, who goes by the moniker of “fourzerotwo.” He was adamant that military-themed and Modern Warfare 2-themed avatar clothing and accessories would be available in the Avatar Marketplace on the same date as the game officially comes out. He even said that some of it might be free to gamers, probably those who pre-ordered the videogame or those who would get particularly obscure Achievements in Modern Warfare 2.

It's not clear how Rewards will be delivered. They are somewhat akin to the Xbox Live Achievement points and are usually things a player can unlock as they reach milestones inside of a videogame but it seems that Modern Warfare 2 will also be offering a few of them.

This is just one more move that seems to suggest to the potential customer that Modern Warfare 2 is mainly an Xbox 360 videogame. Infinity Ward has already confirmed that the first two downloadable content packages for the title will only be delivered on the Microsoft gaming platform and it's clear that close collaboration between the software giant and Infinity Ward was needed to deliver Avatar-oriented content on game launch, especially considering that they were only introduced in August.

Given the recent price parity between the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360, it will be interesting to see which version of the game manages to move the biggest number of copies during the first month and whether such extra offerings will have an impact.
