Modeo has finally launched a live mobile TV beta service in New York City, which was to be expected after their announcement regarding a 'commercial beta launch'. The beta service will include live video content provided by Fox News, Discovery Channel and others as well as streaming audio content from Music Choice.

The distribution of Modeo's Mobile TV service to the beta service group, including several hundred users, began the last week of 2006 and will reportedly continue throughout the first quarter of 2007. Apart from the beta test group, Modeo will also be offering the mobile TV service to a select group of wireless carriers, reporters and analysts.

More on Modeo's until now anonymous partners has also been revealed. Centercode Inc. will be managing the beta test group activities, while GCR Custom Research LLC will provide the company with consumer use and service analysis.

"Modeo is pleased to have this opportunity to showcase our progress toward delivering on the promise of mobile TV," commented Michael Ramke, Modeo's recently appointed president and former vice president of marketing and business development. "By moving beyond technical trial efforts and into true commercial grade network service, we continue to position Modeo as an integral player in the dynamic mobile TV space. Participants in our New York beta service will have a front row seat in the evolution of mobile TV."

Modeo also plans to deliver live broadcast signals from the Las Vegas Convention Center during the Consumer Electronics Show, therefore, CES visitors will have the opportunity to preview the service as well as the smartphone functionality. Both the beta group and the CES visitors will be using Modeo's DVB-H smartphones, manufactured by HTC.
