Sony is keen on making its Play, Create, Share titles hits on the upcoming PlayStation Vita handheld and one of the avenues of attack in its quest is ModNation Racers: Road Trip, the racing game which encourages players to create their own content.

Speaking to VG247, Brandon Akiaten, the producer working at the Sony San Diego studio on ModNation Racers: Road Trip, said, “We certainly wanted to keep the integrity of the ModNation Racers brand, so the inspiration was strong. The robust racing system, unique art sensibility, and principles of Race, Create, and Share still remain.

“The PlayStation Vita gave us a wealth of tools to help us explore more intuitive and better ways of creating unique content while maintaining the strengths and fun factor of ModNation Racers.”

It seems that the hardware possibilities offered by the PlayStation Vita impressed the development team with both terms of actual computing power and control.

He added, “The thought was more like, what can’t we do. When you are provided with a tool that provides faster processing, better graphics, right analog stick, two touch screens, huge OLED display, the ideas start racing – no pun intended.”

Players will be able to use the touch screen and the back touch when they create new tracks to share with the community and the game will also use the Near connectivity feature to setup quick matches with other Vita players and share content.

ModNation Racer: Road Trip offers the same core mechanics as the PlayStation 3 game on which it is based and gamers will be able to use new weapons and new karts to glide around the courses.

The PlayStation Vita will be launched on European and North American markets on February 22 and Sony says that the launch line-up of video games is well designed to make the new device a success.
