Mountain View-based Internet giant Google has just announced that it enhanced the mobile web Gmail with the addition of 44 new languages into the mix. Until now, the mobile web Gmail was available only in English.

Starting with Monday, December 13th, those users who access Gmail via the browser on their mobile phones would benefit from a new version of the HTML5 webapp, which is available in 45 languages.

“The mobile webapp version of Gmail (which you can get to by going to gmail.com in your browser) is the best way to get the most Gmail features on your iPhone or Android-powered device,” Google notes in a recent post on its Google Mobile Blog.

“Features such as search, stars, labels and threaded conversations all work in the mobile webapp just as they do in the desktop Gmail experience. Today, we’re bringing the latest version of our HTML5 webapp to 44 new languages,” the company continues.

The list of these new languages includes:

Arabic, Bulgarian, Catalan, Chinese (Traditional and Simplified), Croatian, Czech, Danish, Dutch, English (UK and American), Estonian, Filipino, Finnish, French, German, Greek, Hebrew, Hindi, Hungarian, Icelandic, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Latvian, Lithuanian, Malay, Norwegian (Bokmal), Polish, Portuguese (for both Portugal and Brazil), Romanian, Russian, Serbian, Slovak, Slovenian, Spanish (for both Spain and South America), Swedish, Thai, Turkish, Ukranian, Urdu and Vietnamese.

Provided that the language of the handset is one of the above, as soon as the user accesses gmail.com via the phone's browser, the new interface would appear in that language automatically.

Some other enhancements are also there for mobile web Gmail users, including offline support, smart links, or the possibility to create or remove labels, as well as a series of layout improvements, and more.

All of the features that users are already accustomed with would also be there, including starring, better threaded conversations and search.

The new webapp version of Gmail is available for all Android devices, as well as for iPhone devices based on iOS 2.2.1 and above. All that users need to do is to head over to gmail.com in their phone's browser to give it a try.
