A recent study reveals the fact that mobile email is looking for a considerable expansion and even heading towards becoming the most frequently used text messaging service. That is sad news for solutions which are at this time leading in the area, such as SMS.

The SMS text messaging solution has recently scored 15 years since it was first introduced. Still, Garner research company has conducted a study showing the fact that mobile email is bound to put an end to the SMS time period and start a new era itself.

The study reveals that there will be 350 million business and consumer users with access to wireless email by 2010. Researchers expect mobile email solutions to gain considerable grounds especially over the next three years. By 2012, they will look forward to a fully functional, evolved wireless email solutions for mobile phones. Even 5 more years further, the service is expected to be fully integrated in mobile communication technology.

Although it will not happen in the nearest future, mobile email is developing towards a bright future. The number of advantages that this service holds over the SMS one is considerably high. First of all, there is no longer a space limit set up to 160 characters, as it was the case in the past. Moreover, costs for this service are completely free and include only the amount of time that the user spends connected to the Internet.

One major disadvantage that mobile email has presented until now when compared to SMS is that it needs strong mobile Internet connections. Up to this point, only few handsets came packed with this performance, but as mobile phone technology is developing, their number is set to considerably increase. With this, the only disadvantage that the solution remains to deal with is that of attack threats over the Internet.
