Although the Nexus S by Samsung is only about one week old on the market, it has been already rooted, and the first custom ROMs for it started to emerge into the wild. Among these solutions, we can count the solution coming from MoDaCo, which is already at the second release. The latest flavor of the ROM was made available for download today, after the Google Nexus S received its first software update, bringing the firmware version on it up to GRH78.

However, the ROM is not completed, and it still requires a lot of work, but the full version is expected to arrive in the not too far future, it seems.

According to a recent post on the MoDaCo forums, those Nexus S users interested in downloading and installing the new software solution should know that it requires a full wipe of the device.

However, in case there are some who already had the previously available r1 flavor of the ROM installed on their mobile phones, they should know that the wipe is out of the equation.

Some of the main features of this release would include an EXT4 performance tweak from supercurio, along with the addition of UK English for Voice Dialler, along with Busybox 1.18.1, and support for running scripts from /etc/init.d at startup.

The changelog for this release also includes:

- Packaged for ClockworkMod - Rebuilt using the MoDaCo MCR optimisation scripts - Full up to date Google experience + additional apps (including new look Market) - HSPA icon differentiation ('H' icon when transferring data via HSPA) - Insecure boot image - su / Superuser.apk root - Support for running scripts from /etc/init.d at startup - Terminfo support (for nano etc) - framework-res and core libraries / apks are signed with the 'platform' certificate from AOSP, aiding those who wish to edit the framework-res / SystemUI.apk to theme. Simply extract, edit, resign with the platform certificate and push the file.

Other features were also included in the ROM, and more would arrive as soon as the full kitchen release is made available. Those interested in learning more on this, and on downloading the ROM, should head to the said forum post here.
