Although initial speculation had it that the post-Lady Gaga Rolling Stone cover would go to American Idol runner-up Adam Lambert, who would use it to announce coming out, it turns out model Miranda Kerr will grace the cover of the popular magazine - or, at least, that of the Green Issue edition. The Victoria’s Secret Angel will appear on the cover dressed in nothing but a chain that ties her to a tree, as part of the Koala Foundation “No Tree, No Me” campaign.

Miranda, as fans must know, has long been involved in several charity and environmental organizations acting in home country Australia, but this is actually the first time the model manages to attract so much attention. Landing the cover of Rolling Stone with the campaign is a huge step in the right direction, as well as a most unexpected development, as Miranda herself says for the magazine.

“Oh it’s incredible. It’s really surreal to be on the cover. Rolling Stone is such an iconic magazine. You know that song, [sings ‘On the cover of the Rolling Stone’] that’s just so cool and I’m really happy to be involved in this!” Kerr says in the accompanying interview, to be found within the covers of the mag once it hits newsstands. Still, this is not about her making it on Rolling Stone although she clearly feels extremely proud for it, as it is about drawing attention to a cause that is so close to her heart as that of koala bears.

“It’s a sad thing. There are only about 100,000 koalas left in Australia.” the 26-year-old stunner says for Rolling Stone. “Something like 80 percent of the koalas’ habitat has been destroyed since Europeans arrived in Australia. Having grown up with koalas in my backyard, it would be truly devastating for me to see them disappear.” the model further explains, adding she grew up in Gunnedah NSW, also known as the koala capital of the world.

As noted above, Miranda Kerr and boyfriend Orlando Bloom, whom she has been dating since late 2007, have used their celebrity status before to draw media attention to certain causes. In February this year, the two joined the “Australia Unites” fundraiser to help victims of the Australian bushfires of earlier that same month.
