Miley Cyrus is growing up and she remains unfazed by constant criticism at who she wants to be as a recording artist. Having long announced her decision to explore a more mature, edgier sound and look, the Disney star has released a first new single, “Can’t Be Tamed,” and video off her upcoming album. She also performed it on ABC’s Dancing With the Stars, as the video below can confirm.

We also informed you on several occasions that, with her next album, also called “Can’t Be Tamed” and with a release date set for June 22 in the US, Miley is looking to branch out and, if possible, move away from her Disney / Hannah Montana image. It’s a difficult task, but she believes she can do it without alienating her fans – and even winning new ones as well. Her first video is her cry of independence and individuality, tackling said theme with the help of a powerful metaphor of an exotic bird.

Of course, Miley couldn’t have reproduced the entire video on stage on DWTS but she came pretty close to it. Dressed in a black leather unitard, with a short jacket with long fringes, resembling the wings she had in the video, the singer certainly cut a stunning appearance. She also had on high-heel, thigh-high black boots and an updo that made her look truly rock ‘n’ roll, which went just perfectly with her tough chick attitude (who, nevertheless, managed to get the choreography down to perfection).

As far as criticism on her new look and approach to music, Miley has already said that she’s not doing anything wrong. In fact, for the “Can’t Be Tamed” vid, she had her parents’ approval, she said a while back, as we also informed you. “My mom was on set. And my dad loves it, because I think my dad was thinking I was a little crazy as I was writing it. When you see it, they were so proud of the treatment I came up with. I think it definitely shows a change of what people remember me as, but it’s not trying to not be me. I didn’t want to be just a character. I wanted to be myself and just in a bird-like form in the way I dressed,” Miley explained.

Also then, she promised her fans more surprises to come, including several projects in film and, of course, more music. Until these come, below is the video of Miley Cyrus performing “Can’t Be Tamed” on ABC’s Dancing With the Stars. Enjoy.
