In May 2009, Mike Tyson’s 4-year-old daughter died in a freak house accident. Since then, the former boxing champ has rarely talked about it, but he breaks pattern in a recent interview with Ellen DeGeneres for her show.

Putting an appearance on the show to promote his upcoming series, Taking on Tyson, Mike tackles topics like his daughter’s tragic death, his weight loss and how he’s managed to get his life back in order even though he’d thought he’d never be able to do it.

It’s all down to a healthy support system, the former champ reveals, speaking of his family and the love and support he’s been getting while fighting his demons.

However, it was his daughter’s death that was the hardest to take in, he admits, as the video below will confirm.

“I was pretty outraged, torn apart,” Tyson says recalling the first visit to the hospital, where his daughter was still fighting for her life.

“When I went to the hospital when she was on the machine, I was anticipating, because I was probably coming down from a hangover, but I’m anticipating that I’m going to go to the hospital and raise hell,” Tyson says of how he thought he’d react to seeing his daughter on the machine.

Still, when he got there, he did nothing of the kind, partly because he realized no one he could have screamed at had anything to do with his tragedy.

“Once I got there and saw other people who had children who already died or were dying, they were handling it with dignity and I didn’t want to be the psycho parent,” the former champ reveals.

Also on Ellen, Tyson talked about his impressive weight loss – made possible thanks to turning vegan 2 years ago – and how amazing he feels right now, after overhauling his diet and lifestyle.
