We reported yesterday on the upcoming Micromax A72 Canvas Viva, an affordable Android smartphone, and now the device is available for purchase in India.

fonearena reports that Micromax decided to make the A72 Canvas Viva official earlier than expected. Customers in India can now purchase the smartphone for only Rs 6,999 outright, which is about $130 or €100. Check it out here.

Keep in mind that customers who purchase the Micromax A72 Canvas Viva via Snapdeal will also receive a free pouch, specially tailored for this rather larger device.

As expected, Micromax A72 Canvas Viva is a budget-friendly smartphone that stands out from other devices in the same price range due to its huge 5-inch display.

The bad news is that the large 5-inch capacitive touchscreen display supports only 480 x 800 pixels resolution. It is also worth mentioning that the A72 Canvas Viva is equipped with a single-core processor clocked at 1GHz.

The smartphone comes with dual-SIM (GSM / GSM) capability with dual standby, but that’s something that most Indian companies include in their mobile phones these days.

Furthermore, Micromax A72 Canvas Viva is only 10.6mm thin and weighs around 186g (battery included), which puts it among the heaviest smartphones available on the market.

Another downside of the smartphone is the sub-par 3-megapixel photo snapper on the back, which lacks autofocus and LED flash. Luckily, the phone comes with VGA front-facing camera as well.

On the inside, the A72 Canvas Viva packs 256MB of RAM, 110MB of internal memory and microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 16GB).

Software-wise, the smartphone ships with Android 2.3.6 Gingerbread operating system out of the box, which is another letdown.

Other highlights of the A72 Canvas Viva include: FM Radio, EDGE, Bluetooth 3.0, Wi-Fi and microUSB. The phone drains energy from a 2,000 mAh Li-Ion battery that has yet to be rated by the manufacturer.
