Ariel Castro has been sentenced to life and an additional 1,000 years behind bars, without possibility of parole, for kidnapping, rape, assault and imprisonment of 3 women in Cleveland. Michelle Knight, one of the women, stood up to him in court upon sentencing.

Castro delivered what ABC News describes in the video above a 16-minute “rambling” statement about how there was “much harmony in the house” and he was never the monster he was depicted.

Michelle painted a different picture of him.

Without once looking in his direction and fighting back tears, she read out a statement on the kind of torture she and the other 2 women were subjected to on a daily basis, on the pain they suffered and how they fought together to survive.

She also said that death penalty would be too easy a sentence for him, and that life behind bars, without even the tiniest ray of hope of seeing the outside world again, was more fitting for his terrible crime.
