Publisher 505 Games and developer Blitz Games have announced that they are working together with Olympic superstar Michael Phelps to create a new video game, designed specifically for the Kinect motion tracking sensor and the Xbox 360, designed to replicate the experience of performance oriented swimmers.

Michael Phelps – Push the Limit will allow the player to take on the role of a young star in the world of swimming that must train hard and compete with established stars in order to fulfill his dreams of glory.

Here's the full trailer for the game.

Michael Phelps himself has said when the game was announced, “Push the Limit is a fun, innovative, and physical way to game that is complete with elements that will challenge serious gamers, swimmers and casual fans. I’m really excited to help bring a one-of-a-kind swimming video game to the market that is reflective of my competitive nature and passion for swimming.”

The swimmer also hyped up the realism side of the game, saying that there is little difference between training for an Olympic event in the pool and waving your arms in front of the Kinect sensor for the Xbox 360 in one's living room.

The main mode in Michael Phelps – Push the Limit will be Career, with the player taking part in the most important tournaments in the world and traveling to the best looking venues in the world.

The difficulty of the game scales with each new event and Phelps himself will guide players through the training system.

Ian Howe, who is the president of 505 Games, has stated, “It is an honor for myself and everyone here at 505 to work with Michael Phelps, a truly transcendent athlete who has brought unprecedented glory to competitive swimming.”

He added, “His guidance and feedback have proven invaluable to the development process, and in-game he will mentor players in their journey from an unknown challenger to a powerful swimmer capable of beating the best in the world.”
