David Hayter, the actor who voices Solid Snake in the Metal Gear Solid series, has shed some light on the reasons why the MGS motion picture is not moving forward at the moment. Hayter is not only an actor, but also a writer and is credited for doing the movie script of titles like X-Men, X2: X-men United and the critically acclaimed Watchmen. He also wrote the screenplay for Metal Gear Solid's film adaptation, but, after he submitted it, the project stalled.

Hayter had some interesting details to share about why the movie stopped production, in an interview with MTV Movie Blog. It seems that a deal could not be worked out between Hideo Kojima and Sony. Moreover, Konami had some political reasons to derail the project, according to Hayter, but he would not say what these were. 1Up quotes the film's producer, Mike De Luca, who had a similar thing to say, namely that there was a lack of “coordinated will at this point on the side of certain parties to see a movie get made.”

About the script, Hayter kept many things to himself, saying that, “Having been intimately involved with Metal Gear, I would like to give people a story that will grab the fans. The fans will know the context that we're talking about once they see the trailers. They'll say, 'Oh my god, they're going there.' But they won't quite know how the story is going to unfold or what some of the big surprises are going to be.”

The next entry in the Metal Gear Solid franchise is Metal Gear Solid: Rising, a game where the usual protagonist, Solid Snake, is replaced for the second time in the series with Raiden. The title will focus on action more than stealth this time around, as its subtitle suggests, “Lighting Bolt Action.” This will also be the first Metal Gear Solid title that is not exclusive to the PlayStation 3 and will be available on the Xbox 360 and the PC as well.
