Though it’s been established that women still don’t know for whom they dress because that depends on their age, position and, at the end of the day, mood, many still believe they get all prettied up for men. If so, they shouldn’t even bother about high heels.

According to a new study cited by the Daily Mail, most men can’t even tell if a woman is wearing high heels or not by the way she walks, which means this does nothing in terms of increasing or lowering her appeal to him.

Experts at Northumbria University have set out to determine whether wearing high heels has any impact on men, in terms of making women more attractive to them – and, in doing so, came upon a rather shocking conclusion.

“Research has shown that men cannot even tell if a woman is wearing heels when they walk,” the Mail writes of the findings of the study.

“The findings are part of a wider study into attraction and the signals sent out by movement, such as walking and dancing,” the publication further informs.

Leading researchers evolutionary psychologist Dr. Nick Neave and Kristofor McCarty set out to analyze the kind of signals a group of women aged 18 to 35 sent out to men when walking in and without heels.

They were somewhat surprised to learn that, whatever the reaction women hoped to stir in men, these could barely distinguish between a woman wearing high heels and one in flats by the way both walked.

“Women are spending money on high heels, which can be dangerous, presumably to make themselves look good and add to what nature has given them,” Dr. Neave says of the findings.

In doing so, they may be putting themselves at risk by wearing high heels, in an attempt to create the impression of longer legs, slimmer waist, and perkier backside.

In turn, this can impact negatively on their health and ability to have children, researchers point out.

“Everybody is attracted to somebody else and making relationships is very important to humans. Making key relationships and having children are some of the most important decisions people will make,” Dr. Neave also says.
