There are many female celebrities out there, especially reality stars, who always look impeccable, even when they’re snapped out getting coffee and donuts. That’s because they cap off their unique style with heels so high many of us couldn’t even dream of standing on, let alone walk a few steps. From now, Nicole Richie will no longer be among them.

In a recent interview cited by TMN News, Nicole, a self-styled fashionista and fashion icon, says that style doesn’t necessarily have to mean a lot of pain. The star, who was once known for little else than being on a reality show and Paris Hilton’s best friend, is now a designer and has a couple of lines out, of both clothes and jewelry. She too used to wear heels most of the time, but motherhood has made her seek alternatives.

“Dress for yourself – that’s how real style comes about,” Nicole says. She should know what she’s talking about, having turned herself into a fashionista throughout the years. “Having great personal style should not have to mean sacrificing comfort. This has become even more important to me since having children. There’s absolutely no way I’m ever going to go out wearing 7 inch heels again,” Richie adds. Presumably, she’s only referring to daily outings and not special events, where high heels are somewhat mandatory.

Speaking of style and learning to be fashionable almost on her own, Nicole also says she was lucky to grow up with parents like hers – she’s the adopted daughter of singer Lionel Richie. “I used to pillage my mum’s closet, and my dad’s costume designer made miniature versions of his looks for me. It’s great to include costumes and dramatic vintage in your wardrobe,” she says with a smile.

If one were to describe Nicole’s style, one would most certainly include terms like boho chic, casual, effortless and feminine, not to mention the emphasis on accessories, be they bracelets and earrings or hippie-inspired bags. Now, we can add another one to the list: high heel-less.
