Only the Limited Edition

Electronic Arts has announced that those players who pick up the Limited Edition of the upcoming first person shooter Medal of Honor will be getting a beta key that will allow access to the testing phase of Battlefield 3, which is currently worked on by developer DICE. The all new Medal of Honor is set to arrive beginning with October 12 on the Xbox 360 from Microsoft, the PlayStation 3 from Sony and the PC. All platforms will get access to the beta stage of Battlefield 3.

The Limited Edition packages are worthy not just because of the included beta key. Electronic Arts is also offering access to special weapons with the package and the PlayStation 3 version of the shooter comes packed with a version of the original Medal of Honor: Frontline which is brought up to modern standards. Still the inclusion of beta access to Battlefield 3 will probably draw in more players than the other exclusives.

DICE is not saying when Battlefield 3 is set to be launched but the beta stage will apparently begin about 12 months before the release date. The developers have not talked about what the new Battlefield will be offering but players can probably expect a solid multiplayer based experience which includes destructible terrain.

The new Medal of Honor is part of Electronic Arts' ambition of regaining the crown of first person shooters from Activision, which publishes the Call of Duty series. The action is moving to modern times, with the single player element, which is developed by EALA, following the missions that Tier 1 Operators perform in Afghanistan, the toughest and most secretive ones in the War on Terror. DICE is working on the multiplayer element of the game. Destructible terrain is not included but Electronic Arts is promising an experience that is engaging but also makes the player think about the implication of war.
