Electronic Arts, the publisher of the Medal of Honor franchise, has announced that it is celebrating the launch of the new game in the series with a special edition linked with the PlayStation 3 home console from Sony. Those who pick up the fresh title will be able to also pick up Medal of Honor: Frontline, the 2002 videogame that launched the entire series. The package will be available to gamers on October 12, the same time as the versions for other platforms are out.

Medal of Honor: Frontline tells the story of a young soldier, Lieutenant Jimmy Patterson, who fights alongside his comrades on the Western front during World War II.

The main ingredients of the franchise were clearly visible and Electronic Arts is hoping that players will have a better appreciation of the 2010 Medal of Honor after seeing the game that started it all. Frontline has been reworked, complete with better control schemes and with High Definition graphics for its first appearance on the PlayStation 3.

Greg Goodrich, who is the executive producer working on the Medal of Honor project, said, “Medal of Honor has always been characterized by authenticity and reverence for the soldier. That sentiment has never been truer than it is today. Medal of Honor has had a long, dynamic history on PlayStation platforms. We are excited to continue that tradition today with this special edition of Medal of Honor that pays homage to the legacy of the franchise on this platform.”

At E3, Electronic Arts also announced that Medal of Honor would be entering a beta stage on June 21, set to show off the multiplayer element of the first person shooter while allowing developers to get feedback from gamers. Those who are VIP owners of Battlefield: Bad Company 2 and have also put down a pre-order for Medal of Honor will be able to get into the multiplayer beta as early as June 17.
