Mass Effect 3, the action and role playing hybrid from developer BioWare and publisher Electronic Arts, has managed to take the number one position in the United Kingdom video game chart during its first week on sale.

The feat is made even more impressive by the fact that Mass Effect 3 launched in the country on March 9 and tracking for the weekly game chart ended just one day later.

Mass Effect 3 was followed by SSX, another video game from Electronic Arts, which has slid one position to second place after being the best sold game in the United Kingdom during last week, while the last position on the podium was occupied by another new launch, the fighting game Street Fighter x Tekken, from Capcom.

FIFA 12, the football simulation from EA Sports, continues its impressive run and has managed to occupy fourth place, down to places from second, while Mario Party 9, which Nintendo has launched exclusively on the Wii home console, has lost the same amount of places in order to reach fifth.

The Sims 3: Showtime, another expansion for the wildly successful life sim from Electronic Arts, has managed to debut in sixth place while Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games from SEGA has landed in seven, continuing a weekly trend of falling two places.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, the first-person shooter from Infinity Ward and Activision Blizzard, is another 2011 title to perform well, keeping eight place after occupying seventh last week while Assassin’s Creed: Revelations, from Ubisoft, is in ninth.

Zumba Fitness, the mix between dancing and fitness from 505 Games, is the title which closes down the United Kingdom top ten.

Out of the top ten are Battlefield 3 from EA, Unit 13, UFC Undisputed 3 and Uncharted: Golden Abyss.
