With Dragon Age: Origins, one of the most celebrated videogames of last year, BioWare fully shifted its attention to Mass Effect 2, the space-based role playing videogame set to be released on the Xbox 360 from Microsoft and on the PC on January 29. And one of the promises the company is making is to deliver meaningful downloadable content quickly after the title comes out.

Casey Hudson, who is the project director working on Mass Effect 2, has told IGN that “There will be great downloadable content throughout the time that Mass Effect 2 is out there while people are waiting for the third one. You'll always have great stuff. New adventures to play. New things to do,” adding that “We don't have anything specifically announced yet, but we basically plan for DLC pretty shortly after the release of the game and then a pretty intense schedule of downloadable content throughout.”

Before the original game in the Mass Effect trilogy was released, BioWare made the same promise of extra content but the two elements offered, Bring Down the Sky in March 2008 and Pinnacle Station in August 2009, were a bit shallow and many fans felt disappointed about the empty promises made by the developers.

Mass Effect 2 is shaping up to be a great experience and an improvement over the first game in the series. BioWare is promising better combat, with squad mates that really make quick and good tactical decisions, and a new dialog system allowing the player to express their position to a situation more clearly, sometimes through physical actions.

Long elevator runs are gone, replaced by more classic loading screens and the whole plot promises to actually allow main character Commander Shepard to die towards the end of the experience if the gamer does not play their virtual cards right.
