A taste of Zelda and Mario

Looks like Nintendo Wii owners are getting some more goodies, in the form of some new VC games. After Super Mario Bros, Super Castlevania IV and Street Fighter II: The World Warrior were made available on Christmas day in the US, now comes the turn of Japanese gamers to get some new VC content.

Gamasutra reports that there's a new list of VC games on Nintendo Japan's website, and this list is headed by Mario Kart 64 (for the Nintendo 64 of course), and Emblem: Seisen no Keifu for the Super Nintendo. Furthermore, some first-party NES titles such as Ice Climber, Zelda II: The Adventure of Link and Kid Icarus will also be made available via the Virtual Console in Japan, early next month.

Sega also promises to make available some Genesis titles including Bonanza Bros and Grain Ground, also in early 2007. Already launched in the US, Alien Crush, Motoraeder, R-Type Ii and Soldier Blade will be also made available for download for Japanese gamers via the Wii's VC.

I don't know if Mario Kart 64 will have the multiplayer mode available, but if it doesn't, I don't see anyone rushing to make the download. If they already have a GameCube Mario, maybe they'll stick to it and take advantage of the backwards compatibility.

I'm just curious to see how much more time will it pass until Nintendo stops trying to shove Mario down our throats. Mario this, Mario that, a million Mario games. Yeah, it is one of the most powerful gaming franchises ever but enough is enough...
