As Mariah Carey seems extremely comfortable with her recent weight gain and clearly not in the mood to pick fights with the media representatives singling her out for it, her husband is making a point of saying that it’s what’s on the inside that really matters. Nick Cannon, who has always been extremely supportive of Mariah, is now telling Us Magazine that her weight should be no one’s business but hers.

As fans must know, Mariah has gained a couple of pounds in all the visible places over recent months and this has prompted several media outlets to “pick” on her saying she was letting herself go because she was enjoying married life a bit too much. Other reports have it that she’s actually indulging on account of the fact that she’s working on her upcoming album and no longer has the strength to curb cravings. Whichever that may be, Cannon reveals, weight fluctuations are normal in everyone and just because they also appear in Mariah should not make them newsworthy.

“It’s something that everyone deals with. Everybody is different for a reason; it ain’t about trying to be super skinny. That’s not what’s hot. It’s what’s inside.” Cannon says for the aforementioned publication. He also reveals in the same short interview that a woman with curves is clearly much more beautiful than those ladies who starve themselves to look almost identical to runaway models. At the same time, he’s also sending a veiled message to the media to back off the weight issue since it is clearly none but Mariah’s business.

One of the first publications to openly take aim at the singer for the fuller figure she revealed while partying in Cannes during the Film Festival was the British Daily Mail, which flatly called her out for the extra pounds. The tab also reminded fans how Mariah was much slimmer and considerably more toned before getting married to Nick, hinting that their surprise wedding ceremony might have actually played a part in Carey ditching the workout routine and strict diet. Either that, or speculation that she was pregnant was true, the Mail was saying at the time.

“Married life is certainly agreeing with Mariah Carey. Spotted showing off a curvier frame at the Cannes Film Festival over the weekend, the award-winning singer appears to have succumbed to the newlywed curse of piling on the pounds after marrying. When the 40-year-old first started dating her now-husband Nick, 28, in March 2008, she was slim and toned thanks to daily workout sessions in her swimming pool. But clearly feeling more comfortable and secure in life now she’s married, Mariah recently admitted she had put on ‘few pounds,’ but was resuming her fitness plan again after several months off.” the Mail wrote.
