The wait is finally over. After lots of teasing and even a Twitter guessing game with fans, singer Mariah Carey and husband Nick Cannon have revealed the name of their babies, who were born over the weekend: Monroe and Morrocan.

As we also noted on several previous occasions, the twins, a girl and a boy, were born over the weekend via C-section – but Mariah and Nick chose to play the waiting game for a while and hold back from releasing their names.

The other day, the diva took to her Twitter to tease fans, telling them that both names start with an M and suggesting they tried to guess which these may be.

As a post on Mariah’s official website suggests, they probably stood very little chance to guess the names, because both of them have deep implications for the celebrity couple.

“Their son is named Moroccan Scott Cannon. Scott is Nick’s middle name, as well as his grandmother’s maiden name,” the report says.

“The top tier of Mariah’s New York City apartment is called the Moroccan Room, because of the Moroccan-inspired decor. It’s also the place where Nick proposed to his wife, overlooking Manhattan!” the official webpage reads.

Monroe is the name of the girl and, for anyone knowing Mariah and her love of screen icon Marilyn Monroe, it’s probably not that much of a surprise.

“Their daughter’s name is Monroe Cannon. Mariah’s rep says she does not have a middle name because Mariah herself does not have one. Monroe was named after Marilyn Monroe, who has been an inspiration to Mariah her whole life,” the website says.

The singer’s rep also chimes in, saying that Mariah and Nick are the happiest they’ve ever been: which is only understandable given how much they wanted a baby and the miscarriage she suffered before becoming pregnant with twins.

The only thing fans are now waiting for is the first photo of the twins. It will probably come in the following weeks, if one is to believe reports online.
