Marcia Wallace, who voiced the jaded teacher Edna Krabappel on “The Simpsons,” died from complications of pneumonia at the age of 70. Though Edna will still be present on this season, a touching tribute has been included in the famous opener.

You can see it in the video above, when Bart Simpson isn’t writing the same sentence as before in the chalkboard sequence: it has been replaced by “We’ll really miss you Mrs. K.”

At the time of her death, Wallace had already done voice work for the entire season of the iconic show, so Edna will still be around for some time. However, at the end of the season, she will be retired.

A producer for “The Simpsons” has said that plans for another character to be killed off are still standing, as announced last month, because Edna wasn’t the one who was supposed to go. So season 25 will mark the loss of two characters.

Wallace had been on “The Simpsons” since the start and even got an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Voice-Over for her work as Edna Krabappel.
