For about two years, one of the trendiest couples in the fashion industry and showbiz was that made of designer Marc Jacobs and Lorenzo Martone. The two got engaged in 2009 and were even believed to have tied the knot at the beginning of the year. As Martone confirms on his official Twitter page, he and Jacobs are no longer an item but they remain close friends.

Further details of the split are not available at this moment but, according to Lorenzo, they have not been together for two months or so. This would explain why Marc Jacobs was not attended by his fiancé on his most recent public appearance, though the tabloid media failed to pick up on this one, especially since the two always put a united front for the press at all types of events. On the bright side, Marc and Lorenzo remain close friends, the latter says on the social network site.

“thanks for t notes. yes, I saw t press today,” Lorenzo wrote about the many messages he saw himself inundated with. “We are not together, haven’t been in 2 months. And we will not comment on it. Sorry. We r fine,” he went on to say. Further calls for comment both with him and his ex, Marc Jacobs, were not attended – nor will they be anytime soon, judging by how the two chose to separate their personal life from their public persona when they were still together.

As also noted above, in January 2010, rumor broke that Marc and Lorenzo had tied the knot in a surprise ceremony in St Barts. The private dinner was hosted by Larry Gagosian and saw the two wearing matching all-white outfits, much to the surprise of the guests, who didn’t exactly know what they were supposed to celebrate because no one had told them about the wedding, so as to prevent leaks to the media. Photos of the ceremony still managed to find their way online.

“The most adorable part of their wedding? The cake toppers, which were molded to look exactly like the couple, with mini-Lorenzo in a tux, and mini-Marc wearing his signature kilt and no shirt so as to best showcase his Sponge Bob Squarepants tattoo. Also joining them on top of the cake was Jacobs’ pitbull Daisy,” one wedding-oriented e-zine wrote at the time, as we also reported. Shortly after this, a rep for Marc Jacobs said the so-called “wedding party” was nothing more than a surprise theme party the two were thrown.
