So-called wedding was just a party

Ever since famed fashion designer Marc Jacobs announced his engagement to boyfriend Lorenzo Martone in March 2009, the entire media has kept a close eye on the couple in the hope of hearing wedding bells and, of course, seeing what can only be a fabulous wedding ceremony. Guest of a Guest thought said ceremony took place this week in St Barts, but a rep for the designer strongly denies the rumor.

Reports of the wedding, accompanied by a few shots snapped at a party that looked very much like a wedding ceremony, complete with the two grooms in all-white ensembles and a theme cake, were immediately picked up in the blogosphere, where they spread like wild fire. They were just minutes denied by a rep for Jacobs, who says the party was an event organized by friends of the couple, with no other significance whatsoever.

“Marc Jacobs made an honest man out of Lorenzo Martone this week, by marrying him in a private ceremony in St. Barts. Following the ceremony, the couples were feted at an exclusive private dinner hosted by Larry Gagosian, with guests including Russell Simmons and girlfriend Porschla Coleman. […] The couple got engaged in March of 2009, after a year of dating, and both men have expressed interest in eventually adopting,” the e-zine initially wrote.

“The most adorable part of their wedding? The cake toppers, which were molded to look exactly like the couple, with mini-Lorenzo in a tux, and mini-Marc wearing his signature kilt and no shirt so as to best showcase his Sponge Bob Squarepants tattoo. Also joining them on top of the cake was Jacobs’ pitbull Daisy,” Guest of a Guest went on to say.

An update to the post was later added to read that, in fact, the party was a rehearsal for an engagement party. At the same time, the rep is also telling other US media outlets that the event was one organized by friends, who simply wanted to have the two celebrate their love while also having fun, which literally opens the door to more “did they or didn’t they?” speculation.
