Custom PC builder Maingear has just sent out a press release to announce that its high-performance Shift and F131 desktop systems can now be configured with Intel's most powerful consumer Sandy Bridge processor to date, the recently launched Core i7-2700K.

The i7-2700K is destined to take the place of Intel's previous Core i7-2600K in the company lineup as it features 100MHz higher base and Turbo Boost frequencies.

This means that the four computing cores are usually run at a base clock speed of 3.5GHz, while Turbo Core enables the CPU can go as high as 3.9GHz.

Outside of the improved operating frequencies, the rest of the CPU specs were left unaltered when compared with the i7-2600K, so Intel's new flagship chip includes 8MB of Level 3 cache, Intel HD 3000 graphics with 850/1350MHz clock speeds and a dual-channel DDR3-1333 memory controller.

All these are packed inside a 95W TDP and the chip also features an unlocked multiplier which allows enthusiasts to reach higher overclocks from the Core i7-2700K.

In Maingear's desktops, Intel's processors can be paired with a maximum of 16GB of DDR3-1866 memory, various AMD and Nvidia graphics cards standalone or configured in CrossFireX or SLI, as well as with up to six hard drives or SSDs.

All these are powered by high-end power supplies with ratings up to 1,500W and assembled in Maingear's unique Shift or F131 chassis, which are available in an assortment of colors.

Both systems can also be fitted with closed loop water cooling systems, and Maingear allows its customers to go for the “Redline Overclocking Service” that means the Intel Core i7-2700K will come factory overclocked up to 5.2GHz.

The i7-2700K is already available in Maingear's online configurator for the Shift and F131 desktops. The starting price of the systems when configured with this CPU is set at $1,228 and $1,985 (886 and 1,432 Euros) respectively.
