Maingear recently announced that the Shift high-performance desktop can now be configured to feature the all new EPIC X2 closed-loop water cooler, the first solution of its kind to support dual-GPU graphics cards and SLI setups.

The EPIC X2 is compatible with the Nvidia GeForce GTX 590 as well as GTX 580 SLI setups, and will soon also become available for the AMD Radeon 6990.

Furthermore, unlike other liquid cooling solutions, the EPIC X2 series is fully user upgradeable, as the cold plates are interchangeable with interposers that can be created for future graphic solutions.

By using this water cooling solution designed in collaboration with CoolIT, Maingear claims the GTX 590 will become 18 degrees Celsius cooler, while its noise level will also be reduced by an impressive 12db, when compared to the reference design.

“The Maingear EPIC X2 liquid cooling solution is another example of how Maingear delivers incredible performance through innovation while constantly keeping the customer in mind.

“The EPIC X2 delivers the absolute best in silent, extreme cooling and we are proud to be working with such a prestige team,” said Geoff Lyon, President and CEO of CoolIT Systems Inc.

“For those who are looking to have the best of the best performance or for extreme overclocking capabilities while maintaining a clean, quiet and efficient PC, the EPIC X2 liquid cooling solution for dual graphics is the ultimate solution,“ added Said Wallace Santos, Founder and CEO of Maingear.

The EPIC X2 closed-loop water cooler was designed to be used together with the EPIC 180 radiator, which Maingear announced at the end of August for its high-performance desktops.

The new cooling solution is right now only available for the GTX 580 SLI setups. Including the two graphics cards and the new water cooler, the upgrade adds a rather impressive $1,505 (about 1098 Euros) to the Shift's starting price.
