Just a few hours after the official launch of AMD's Radeon HD 6990 graphics card, Maingear has announced that starting from now their Shift and F131 high-end desktop systems are available with this new dual-GPU solution.

Outside of AMD's flagship card, both of these systems can be configured to feature a wide selection of Intel processors, including the six-core 990X and the unlocked Sandy Bridge Core i7 2600K.

For its desktops, Mainger has decided to use cards built by Visiontek which follow AMD's reference design to the latter, as the GPU is clocked at 830MHz (880MHz in OC mode) while the 4GB of GDDR5 memory is run at 1,250MHz (5GHz effective).

The Radeon HD 6990 graphics card uses two Cayman XT GPUs, placed on the same printed circuit board which runs in CrossFireX, and packs 3072 stream processors, 192 texturing units and 64 ROPs as well as dual 256-bit memory buses with a total memory bandwidth of 307.2GB/s.

Its TDP is rated at a maximum of 450W and half of the heat produced while running is pushed right back into the system, so a properly ventilated case is a must. However, this hasn't stopped Maingear from enabling users to pair their systems with two such fire breathing card.

“At Maingear, we're dedicated to building state-of-the-art computers.” says Wallace Santos, CEO and founder of Maingear Computers.

“The new AMD Radeon 6990 builds upon the dedication that Maingear has of offering the latest and best hardware components on the market to give our customers the best possible PC experience.”

The Radeon HD 6990 is available right now in customized Shift and F131S systems with prices starting at $2,510.00 and $2,724.00 (the F131S also required the addition of a beefier PSU).

Going for a CrossFireX setup will raise the Shift's price to $3,357.00 while the F131S will go to $3,571.00.
