Will Wright and EA are confident that Mac owners will make the most of the 'God game'

There really is no doubt that Mac users are going to be very happy around September, on the 7th to be precise. Will Wright's and EA's Spore is coming to Apple platforms, at the same time it arrives on Windows but the game's designers believe that Spore will appeal a bit more to Mac users in particular.

One reason I can think of is because Mac users are (allegedly) intellectually curious. The Street and Mindset Media have a little more to say about that, though. Anyway, Mac|Life has recently gotten a chance to sit down and chat with the game's lead designer, Will Wright himself. Lucy Bradshaw, Executive Producer at EA, was also present at the interview. Both of them had some interesting statements to make when Mac|Life asked why they finally decided to release it for Macs as well:

"... First of all, games that Will had made befor--SimCity--originated on the Mac, had a strong following on the Mac, and I think launching first on the Mac was part of the reason for its success, because journalists were on them? [With Spore,] there's sort of this energy with [the Mac] audience," said Lucy Bradshaw.

"We want to see what weird, unexpected things people will do with these tools," Will Wright added. "And I think the Mac group will be over-represented and the people that surprise us with the weird stuff they do with tools."

And while Will Right thinks Mac minds are more Spore-worthy, Lucy Bradshaw actually reveals that they're going to be playing a bit of real-life Spore themselves by throwing the game at Mac owners: "We're kind of excited to take it to that platform and see what happens with it."

The duo also gave a few details on why they went on using TransGaming and a Cider port versus a native Mac translation. Will Wright even pulled out his iPhone saying he'd "love to" play Spore on it. Mrs. Bradshaw also thought "it'd be interesting," adding that "it's not something [EA] could announce right now."
