In addition to pulling the veil off a couple of smartphones and the new Xperia Tablet Z2 (check our hands-on here), Sony has taken the time to introduce a new concept to the masses, which we heard of back at CES 2014.

The tech giant is apparently working on a project they have called SmartEyeglass, and if you’re already having Google Glass visions, Sony assures you their product is not actually meant to be a competitor, albeit having similar functions (via Tech2).

Right off the bat, we can tell you the glasses will be capable of guiding you wherever you want to go, both inside and outside. Furthermore, the glasses will be able to read text messages out to you, with the possibility of snapping pictures present as well.

The SmartEyeglass surely offers a mélange of functions because the wearable comes equipped with a compass, microphone, accelerometer, camera and brightness sensor.

Interaction with the SmartEyeglass is achieved by a third-party touchpad complete with buttons to allow you to navigate and use your camera.

Sony has posted a video teaser detailing the concept and judging by what we see in there, the SmartEyeglass basically looks like a pair of bulkier sun glasses.

An SDK is also in the works for developers, so access to the specific code will be made available for those interested in developing apps for the device. As this point, the SmartEyeglass is still a work in progress, so you won’t be seeing in on the market anytime soon, but check out the video to make an idea of what to expect.
