South Korean mobile phone maker LG Electronics came to the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona with its latest addition to the Android offering, including the LG Optimus 3D, as well as the LG Optimus Black, which was launched officially last month at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.

The new smartphone was announced with a bright 4-inch NOVA display (800 x 480 WVGA resolution), which is set to provide users with a brand new experience when it comes to viewing content on a mobile device.

The phone's display delivers 700 nits (candela per square meter) of brightness, which makes it the “brightest, clearest and most readable mobile screen” on a smartphone, LG says.

At the same time, the new smartphone includes a back Arch, which makes its body be only 6.0 mm thin at the slimmest point. The LG Optimus Black weighs in at only 109g.

Running under Google's Android 2.2 Froyo operating system, the Optimus Black sports the Optimus UI 2.0. According to the handset vendor, the phone will be upgraded to Android 2.3 Gingerbread OS.

Some of the main specifications of this device include a 1500 mAh battery, Wi-Fi Direct certification, as well as a 2MP front-facing camera.

Of course, the new device comes with all of the usual features that one would usually find in an Android smartphone, such as back camera with HD video recording, WiFi, Bluetooth and 3G connectivity, microSD memory card slot, and more.

Over all, the mobile phone does not seem to have a specific impressive feature that would make it stand up in the crowd, except maybe for the said brighter NOVA display.

LG announced not too long ago that the smartphone would arrive on shelves with specially designed covers which are the result of a collaboration with the Keith Haring Foundation, and it brought them to the Mobile World Congress too, as you can see in the last photo attached to this article.

With those covers on, the LG Optimus Black becomes increasingly appealing, and it might indeed prove to be a popular handset when LG will make it available for purchase.
