On Wednesday, info on the possible near launch of a new Android-based mobile phone from South Korean handset vendor LG Electronics emerged, namely the LG Optimus Black, and the device was already announced officially at the 2011 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) from January 6th in Las Vegas. The new mobile phone comes to the market with a bright 4-inch NOVA display, and also sports one of the slimmest designs in a handset today, being only 9.2 mm thin.

LG Optimus Black’s NOVA display is the first of the kind, and is expected to prove being the brightest, clearest and most readable mobile screen, while offering 700 nits (candela per square meter) of brightness.

The new display should offer a better experience when it comes to browsing the Internet, reading emails, or writing documents. Moreover, it was designed so as to enable users maintain visibility both indoors and outdoors.

The new NOVA display also reduces power consumption by 50 percent during indoor use, when compared to conventional LCD screens. Thus, the 1500 mAh battery inside this phone should offer more power for daily use.

“We are excited to introduce this stylish new Android smartphone and expect the LG Optimus Black to play a key role in the mobile market,” said Dr. Jong-seok Park, president and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company.

“LG Optimus Black reflects our core strengths of advanced technology, in both display and design, offering the world’s brightest screen and the world’s slimmest design in an attractive and smart package.”

The specs list of the new handset also includes a back Arch that makes its body only 6.0 mm thin at the slimmest point, as well as a weight of only 109g.

The phone comes with the Optimus UI 2.0, Wi-Fi Direct certification, and the world’s first 2MP front-facing camera. The new device runs under Android 2.2 Froyo and should be upgraded to the Android 2.3 Gingerbread OS version.
