One of the most expected smartphones at this year's Mobile World Congress was the LG Optimus 3D, the very first mobile phone in the world to arrive on shelves with 3D capabilities that include both recording and playback. Just as teased not too long ago, South Korean mobile phone maker LG Electronics came to the show in Barcelona, Spain with this smartphone in their pocket, and showcased it to the world.

Softpedia editors on the floor at MWC 2011 had the chance to put their hands on this smartphone and have a look at it, while providing you with a series of live photos.

Powered by a 1GHz Dual-Core Dual-Channel processor, a Texas Instruments OMAP4, the LG Optimus 3D has a unique 'tri-dual' configuration, LG explains: dual-core, dual-channel and dual-memory.

Basically, this device should offer far better performance levels when compared to other handsets that sport 1GHz dual-core processors inside.

And there is also the dual 5-megapixel lens camera on the back, aimed at offering users the possibility to easily capture and record in 3D no matter where they are.

The recorded content can be viewed either on the mobile phone's 4.3-inch WVGA display, with 3D (up to 720p) multimedia content, or on 3D TVs and monitors via a HDMI 1.4 connection.

The phone's display does not require the use of special stereoscopic glasses to enjoy the 3D effect, but the experience might not impress too much in case you have high expectations. After all, this is only the first such handset in the world. The LG Optimus 3D is capable of recording and playing 2D content as well (1080p MPEG-4/H.264). Apparently, the dual 5-megapixel lens camera would shoot just like a 10MP snapper when it comes to 2D.

With 8 GB of internal memory, HSPA+, DLNA/HDMI 1.4, WiFi, Bluetooth and GPS, as well as a 1,500 mAh battery, the new LG Optimus 3D can easily prove a great option for any smartphone user out there.

According to LG, the handset would run under Android 2.2 Froyo, upgradeable to Android 2.3 Gingerbread. The handset should hit the shelves sometime in May, but specific info on its price tag did not emerge for the time being.
