With competitors like “Avatar” and “Alice in Wonderland,” only fans could have hoped for “Twilight” to take home the big award at this year’s MTV Movie Awards. Still, coming to prove that one should never underestimate the determination of a huge and very loyal fanbase, “Twilight: New Moon” almost cleaned up the awards, earning no less than five awards at the big ceremony that took place last night.

In winning Best Movie, the second installment of the vampire saga beat out not only “Avatar” and “Alice,” but also “The Hangover,” admittedly last year’s biggest comedy, and “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince,” thus settling for one and for all the burning matter of who’s hotter, vampires or wizards. “New Moon” (or the cast) was also awarded golden popcorn statuettes for Best Kiss (Pattinson and Stewart), Best Male Performance (Pattinson), Best Female Performance (Stewart) and Global Superstar (Pattinson), while Best Breakthrough Performance went to Anna Kendrick for “Up in the Air.”

Overall, it was a huge night for the vampire flick but, strangely, one of the best moments of the night had nothing to do with either vampires or werewolves. Sandra Bullock may not have won the Best Female Performance award, though many had a lot going on her, but she still got to leave home with a special statuette: the Generation Award. Bullock walked on stage, kissed Scarlett Johansson on the lips and showed, with her speech, that she still has a wicked sense of humor, regardless of what’s going on in her personal life.

“No matter what you have heard or seen lately I love what I do and I’m not going anywhere... I’d like to clear up a few things. No, I am not dead. Everybody has cellulite, not just me. Paparazzi need more flattering lenses. Whoever established the high road and how high it was going to be should be fired...” Bullock jokes as she accepted the Generation Award.
