MSI has just announced the introduction of a new netbook model that is based on Intel's latest Atom N455 processor and provides up to 8 and a half hours of running time, while also featuring a thin and light design.

The new models is dubbed the U160MX and, according to MSI, is less than one inch thin and tips the scales at just one kilogram including the battery.

On the inside, the netbook is powered by an Intel Atom N455 CPU, which features a single processing core, is clocked at 1.66GHz and has a TDP of just 6.5W.

The operation frequency of the chip can be further increased thanks to MSI’s Turbo Drive Engine technology that automatically raises the core's clock when processing heavy-load applications.

In addition, the chip supports Intel's Hyper-Threading technology, which allows it to run up to two simultaneous application threads, as well as an integrated GMA 3150 GPU.

The rest of the specifications list includes 2GB of DDR3-667 memory, a 250GB or 320GB hard drive, three USB 2.0 ports, a 2-in-1 card reader, 802.11 b/g/n WLAN, Bluetooth v2.1 + EDR and 10/100M LAN connectivity, a 0.3M webcam and a 3 cell Li-Ion battery.

U160MX's screen measures 10.1-inch, has a 1024x600 resolution and MSI states it packs a 8 milliseconds refresh rate.

“The U160MX has a unique circular display axle and is sheathed in a brush finish black coating that protects against smudging.

“This elegant netbook also comes with a chicklet keyboard, MSI’s ECO Engine power-saving technology, Easy Face biometric software, the Easy Viewer photo manager, and the S-Bar tool bar.

“Stunningly beautiful and equipped with powerful MSI applications, you’ll fall in love with it,” said Eric Kuo, associate vice president for global sales at MSI Notebook.

No details regarding pricing and availability were made official at this time.
