MLB.com has issued an official statement on Apple naming MLB.com At Bat 2010 for iPhone and iPod touch the highest grossing application. Apple is at its second annual iTunes Rewind for the App Store which features six categories this year - top free, top paid and top grossing - where titles are listed as “for iPhone and iPod touch” and “for iPad.”

As avid Softpedia readers should already know, Rovio’s Angry Birds took a top spot in all but one of the six categories, while Apple’s own Pages app was the #1 paid app, according to this year's iTunes Rewind listings.

Facebook was the top free title downloaded on iPhones and iPod touches, while iBooks is being listed as the top free iPad application downloaded in 2010.

Top grossing apps included Apple’s iBooks for iPhone and iPad, and MLB.com’s At Bat 2010.

According to MLB.com, At Bat finished first overall across all categories of paid applications for 2010, after delivering the first full season of live video for every game, introducing the At The Ballpark mobile in-venue experience.

For iPad only, MLB.com At Bat 2010 was recognized as the highest grossing application in the sports category, the app’s makers acknowlegded.

At Bat 2010 was used by baseball fans to follow Major League Baseball games every day from the application's debut in Spring Training through the final out of the 2010 World Series, according to the official report dated December 12, 2010.

At Bat was accessed 37 million times, a 236 percent increase over the 2009 Postseason, during the 2010 MLB Postseason alone, said MLB.com.

“Subscribers to At Bat 2010 were able to access their MLB.TV subscriptions to watch live home and away broadcast feeds for every out-of-market regular season game with enhanced features such as statistical overlays and controls to pause or rewind live action."

“The application also delivered every radio feed, in-game video highlights and MLB.com Gameday,” MLB.com said today.

BLB.com also announced a major feat thanks to At The Ballpark, the mobile in-venue experience within At Bat 2010 for iPhone released earlier this year.

According to the company, At The Ballpark allowed fans to use core location technology to check-in to any of the 30 Major League ballparks and, subsequently, receive access to an array of exclusive features, including social media, interactive venue maps, concession menus, personal profiles and video highlights.

For the offseason, At Bat version 1.5.0 delivers expanded Hot Stove baseball coverage including breaking news for every club, winter meetings news coverage, video highlight library searchable by player or team, interactive rosters and player stats for every team, 2011 schedules, and 2010 standings / postseason results.

MLB.com At Bat for iPhone won an Apple Design Award (iPhone Developer Showcase) in 2009.

The app is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad and requires iOS 3.0 or later.
