Just over a week ago, there was word on the street that Square Enix was coming up with a new RPG title, much like the Final Fantasy series and even featuring one of the series' classic characters, Rush. Today, the developer has disclosed loads of details concerning their new RPG, The Last Remnant and most importantly the platforms on which it will be released.

First of all, fans of the developer's work (and I'm sure there are millions out there) should know that The Last Remnant is the company's first next-gen multiplatform RPG. It will be releasing simultaneously in Japan and North America, for Sony's PS3 and Microsoft's Xbox 360.

The Last Remanant is a completely original RPG title, taking advantage of the power of next-generation hardware to build a lush, realtime fantasy world. Making full use of Epic's Unreal Engine 3, Square Enix was given the possibility to achieve simultaneous development on both PS3 and Xbox 360.

The game's battle system has been carefully crafted to deliver a brand-new experience for gamers, as they control forces in massive battles between up to seventy different units at once. The developer's presentation at the press conference today featured a demonstration of the game, showing off some dynamic and sprawling landscapes.

The game's story goes something like this, as the developer presents it:

"Long ago, the world was filled with Remnants - mysterious artifacts from an ancient civilization. But as time passed, the powers of the Remnants began to shift the world's balance. As the rift widened between those who ruled and those who were ruled over, a new era dawned: one of countless frays brought upon the world by those enslaved by their own lust for power.

A thousand years later, the journey of one young man begins..."

I'll bet you're hooked by now if you like the Final Fantasy series.

Features include:

- a vast, war-torn battlefield, scarred by years of conflict -countless enemies surround the player, who is backed up by his own army. -the feeling of true tension as a soldier on the battlefield -seventy units battling it out at once -the visual power of next-gen hardware -a unique play style and battle system, challenging even veterans of the RPG genre

These are mere "blueprints" for the game now, as an official date hasn't been made official yet, but if you're a Japanese or an American owner of an Xbox 360 or PS3, you'll get your chance to enjoy the upper mentioned features. All you have to do is wait.
