Media Molecule, as the developer, and Sony, as the publisher, have announced that Little Big Planet will be launched on November 16, just in time for the holiday shopping season. The platformer is only offered on the PlayStation 3 home console from Sony and the publisher is also saying that a Limited Edition of Little Big Planet 2 will cost 79.99 dollars and will be offered on the same date as the regular game only at selected retailers for those who are interesting in getting some extra content.

Those who pick up the Collector'd Edition of Little Big Planet 2 will get: a copy of the video game; an actual real life Sack Boy figurine that will make it easier for the player to connect with the main character of the title; Little Big Planet 2 themed bookends that allow the player to keep his PlayStation 3 games collection in a new unique package; 11 costumes that are only linked with pre orders, including a Toy Story 3 themed one, a Muppets costume and one based on Ratcket; three costumes that are unique to the Collector's Edition and five Avatars that can be used on the PlayStation Network.

Little Big Planet 2 is marketed as a platform in which players can created their own video games, using the complex editor that Media Molecule has created. The game will offer more options than the first one in the series and the thousands of levels that are already developed can be imported without any problem to then be edited and enriched suing the new options. The game also offers more community options, allowing players to share content with their friends, from photos to full levels.

Little Big Planet 2 will also offer a single player element, with levels coming directly from Media Molecule. The story will involve a giant vacuum cleaner called The Sucker which will destroy the entire planet if SackBoy and his allies do not stop it.
