New release off “Britney Jean” album is a story of cheating and breakup

As promised yesterday, Britney Spears has released a brand new song: her first ballad since 2004’s “Everytime,” called “Perfume.” It will be included on her album “Britney Jean,” which comes out in December.

You can listen to it in full above.

Britney said about it that it “hits close to home,” having been based on experience and, before that, she revealed at least one of her new songs would be inspired from her breakup from ex-fiancé Jason Trawick.

Considering that she co-wrote the lyrics to “Perfume” and it deals with cheating besides heartbreak, voices are now asking whether Britney is hinting that Jason cheated on her and that’s why she decided to end the engagement.

We’ll probably never know the answer to that. In the meantime, “Perfume” makes for a great listen, coming with a much cleaner, less over-processed sound and more focus on real emotion.

I guess you can tell I’m not that much of a fan of Britney’s “Work” song, her first single off the new album.
