Joining Danny Trejo and Michelle Rodriguez

Famed director Robert Rodriguez is currently working on “The Machete,” a long feature film inspired from a faux trailer with the same name that ran with “Grindhouse” upon release. Featuring Danny Trejo as the machete-wielding anti-hero and Michelle Rodriguez, an actress accustomed to playing tougher and more physically challenging roles, the film will also feature a character especially written with Lindsay Lohan in mind that she will, of course, play, as Lohan herself confirms on Twitter.

“Something was made official today!!!!!!!!!” Lindsay wrote over the weekend, also including a link to the IMDB page of the film, where her name is listed in the credits. However, Rodriguez or the movie studio are yet to confirm her involvement in the project. Still, given that the director has already expressed his intentions of getting Lohan for a small part that was written especially for her, it’s not that far-fetched to imagine that she has, indeed, been attached to the film.

“I can’t say too much about it. Except that we start shooting in a couple weeks! These things come together very quickly. We’re casting right now, and the script just came out great… There are a lot of people we’re sending it to, big names – but nobody that we’ve signed yet. Lindsay’s cool. There’s actually a cool part in the movie for her – if she takes it.” the famed director was saying just a few days ago. From Lindsay’s announcement on Twitter, it seems she agreed to do the part.

As we were also telling you, other big names rumored to appear in “Machete” are Robert De Niro, with speculation saying that he’s this close to signing on the dotted line after meeting with Rodriguez several times, Jonah Hill and Steven Seagal. Rumor of the director considering turning the faux trailer into a long feature film emerged back in April and, once this happened, it instantly became clear that, no matter what critics said of “Grindhouse” (and it wasn’t necessarily good things, as fans must know), a “Machete” movie standing on its own would be more than welcome.

As of now, “Machete” is scheduled for a tentative release for 2010. Production is said to start anytime in the following weeks, but, until then, an official announcement on the cast is still pending. Keep an eye on this space for when that happens.
