Robert Rodriguez is, for many fans, a director that can do no wrong, especially if we’re talking about making a long-feature film starting from a faux trailer that was included on a two-part movie, such as is the case with “The Machete” from “Grindhouse.” However, talk of Rodriguez looking to cast Lindsay Lohan in the upcoming film might prompt a few mixed reactions, especially if he’s as serious as he makes it sound for IMDB.

As of now, the only member of the cast that has been confirmed as attached is Danny Trejo, the same who also played Machete in the aforementioned faux trailer. As fans must know, even if “Grindhouse” was somewhat rubbished by critics and failed to perform at the box-office as expected, the “Machete” part generated quite an impressive cult following, which would explain the hype the long-feature film is getting right now.

If we also add to this the fact that Robert De Niro, Jonah Hill, Steven Seagal and Michelle Rodriguez are rumored to be considered for the line-up, then it becomes even easier to understand the sense of anticipation surrounding this script. However, news that the director is considering Lindsay Lohan for one part in the flick might be a bit too much for certain fans to swallow, especially given the roles she had in recent years and the way her performances have been welcomed by worldwide audiences.

“I can’t say too much about it. Except that we start shooting in a couple weeks! These things come together very quickly. We’re casting right now, and the script just came out great… There are a lot of people we’re sending it to, big names – but nobody that we’ve signed yet.” Rodriguez says of the casting process. “Lindsay’s cool. There’s actually a cool part in the movie for her – if she takes it.” the famed director immediately adds.

Word of Robert Rodriguez making the story of Machete into a full-length film first broke in April this year, when it was also confirmed that he was working on a “Predator” reboot meant to introduce the killer alien to a whole new audience. “The filmmaker will create a feature out of the blade-wielding antihero who appeared in a mock trailer that was part of ‘Grindhouse.’ Rodriguez is eyeing a June start date in Austin for ‘Machete,’ a film that is financed and produced by Overnight Productions, with Danny Trejo starring as the title character. Machete is a Mexican ex-Federale with a gift for wielding a blade, who hides out as a day laborer, who is double-crossed by a corrupt state senator.” Variety said at the time.
